Communication Skills

By 30 months:

  • Consistently uses phrases composed of 2 to 3 words
  • At least 50% of speech is understood by the caregiver
  • Follows 2-step unrelated directions, e.g. “give me the ball and go get your coat”
  •  Understands basic nouns and pronouns as well as “mine” and “yours”


By 36 months:

  • Asks “what” and “where” questions
  • Uses plurals, e.g. “dogs”
  • Caregiver understands most of baby’s speech
  • Shows a simple understanding of concepts, including color, space and time
  • Understands “why” questions
  • Understands most simple sentences

Feeding Skills

  • Can tolerate any type of food
  • Gains more control of cup drinking and bites the cup less
  • Fine-tunes eating skills
